What Was so Special About the 1958 Chevy Impala?

April 5th, 2009

Chevrolet has been manufacturing cars for decades, but one model stands out from the rest and that is the 1958 Chevy Impala. At the time, no other car had the shape of the Impala and it was the top model on the assembly line for that year. The 1958 Chevy Impala is credited with heralding in the era of the muscle car and it soon became the car to drive.

When it first was introduced it was available either as a two door with a hard top or as a convertible sport coupe. The styling of the Impala followed along the lines of Delray, Biscayne and Bel Air models but it had its own unique extras.

Chevy ads proclaimed that the 1958 Impala was one of the most restful cars to drive along with verve and zest for your car dollars. Other ads said that the Impala was Deep Down New and was Lower and Longer as well as Wider and Stronger.

The advertising campaign for the Chevy Impala implied that those who drove such a car would live a life of good times in a world of excitement. Though the Impala was at the top of the spectrum of the series of Chevy Bel Air cars, the name was not implemented on any part of the car. When you bought a Chevy Impala you could choose from interiors with deluxe features along with special trim. At the time it was priced as the highest of any Chevy car on the market.

Many old timers remember what it was like to own one of these cars. They were considered cool and in the innocent time of the late fifties and early sixties that was important to teenage boys just as it is today.
